Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet To Come In 7, 8 and 10-Inch Models?

What difference does an inch make? If you ask Samsung, quite a bit apparently. The leaked 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet will be joined by an 8-inch and 10-inch model several months after the August launch pitted for the 7-inch Android.

They'll go on sale first in South Korea in December, according to the Korea Herald, and will then be rolled out worldwide after that—presumably if the reception is favorable.

Leaked by the South African Twitter account for Samsung, all we know so far about the 7-incher is that it has "a high-res TFT screen," and "at the top-end it has a 3.5mm jack." Judging by the photo sent out on the Twitter account, it either has phone functionality or can be used with a VoIP handset. [Korea Herald via Samsung Hub via Phone Arena]

I am thinking that the 8" model is going to be more of a Premium counterpart to the 7", then the 10" will be their answer to the iPad. One of the comments on this posting mentioned, both 7 & 8 will be just as portable as any other large smartphone, but we all know that 9.7, 10 and 11.6 inch tablet/slates are not pocket friendly AT ALL!

One of the other commentors didn't like the fact that another 16:9 tablet was being released. I am not sure if he realizes that 16:9 everything (monitors, TVs, slates, laptops, etc) are all made because the "general public" is stuck on the widescreen (silver screen induced) craze! If someone released a square display on anything, talk about FLOP, it would be have RECORD lows in sales numbers because we are all now acclimated to wanting wide!

Anyway, we will see how it fares in Korea and see if we can get our hands on one here in The States!

HTC Evo 4G: The HD2 for Android?

Do you like the look of the HTC HD2, but get turned off by the fact it uses Windows Mobile? Well, it seems HTC has you covered with the announcement of the Evo 4G. It’s very similar to the HD2, but runs Android, and has a few additional features.

Previously known as the Supersonic, the Evo 4G is the first 3G/4G handset for the U.S. market, and will be available exclusively from Sprint.

Here’s the main specs:

• 4.3″ AMOLED capacitive pinch and zoom touchscreen
• 1GHz Snapdragon processor
• 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD video capture
• 1.3 medapixel forward-facing camera
• 1GB ROM
• 512MB RAM
• HDMI port
• WIMAX support, WiFi, Bluetooth
• HTC Sense UI
• Kickstand

Sprint is touting its 4G network as an all-in-one solution, so with the HTC Evo 4G you will be able to connect up to 8 devices such as a laptop, MP3 player, and handheld gaming unit.

If you want one, you’ll have to wait until the summer.

The HD2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 is a bit of a dead end for users if they want to upgrade as there’s no path to Mobile 7. When contracts usually run two years that’s surely going to put you off having one.

Then comes the announcement of a similar phone, from the same manufacturer, but running Android. We all know how readily Android gets new versions, and upgrades appear within a few months. So this may cause a few consumers to wait and get the Evo 4G instead.

I’m actually hoping HTC stops announcing phones for a few months so I can sit down, look at what’s available, and choose a new handset. Currently, I keep looking, but then hear about the next model appearing in a few months and wait a bit longer.

OK! Seriously HTC!?!? I was JUST ABOUT to go get my HD2 from T-Mobile and then I see THIS! An Android version of HD2 that will be released WITH a better camera, a front facing camera (which I will miss from my HD1 if I get T-Mo's HD2), AND Android OS! I agree with the article author that I wish HTC would just SLOWDOWN! Apparently you are KILLING Apple, Blackberry & Palm with all these phone releases but you are making us smartphone aficionados a little scared of upgrading for fear that our (next) "dream" phone is only MONTHS from release! SMH!

Aurora Internet Explorer Zero-Day Attack

As early as December 2009, emails containing links to malicious code were sent to Google, Adobe, and approximately 30 other companies.  Commonly referred to as Aurora, the attack leveraged a previously unknown Internet Explorer vulnerability and the attack is ongoing.  Aurora was designed to evade traditional anti-virus and Web reputation defenses to gain access to company assets and sensitive information. As of January 21, only 25% of AV vendors tracked protect against the payload according to this VT report. Websense® Security Labs™ has published important information – available below – regarding this threat.

What You Should Know

The Aurora attacks are examples of what are being referred to as Advanced Persistent Threats (APT), described well by TaoSecurity in three simple points. In brief:

• Advanced means the adversary can operate in the full spectrum of computer intrusion.
• Persistent means the adversary is formally tasked to accomplish a mission.
• Threat means the adversary is not a piece of mindless code.

The impact of these advanced attacks on the targeted organization can be severe and difficult to defend against. In this case, the attacks used complex exploit code delivered on websites. Vulnerable hosts were affected when they simply connected to the site. Post-infection, additional malicious code is downloaded, data is captured and the sent to remote websites.

Websense has been at the forefront of identifying and protecting our customers from zero-day exploits in the wild for several years.  We expect that the number of attacks of this type will grow with time.  We are now seeing other attackers use the Aurora zero-day exploit to infect vulnerable hosts.
